Supporting Newfoundland through Community & Sport

A Multi-Generational Legacy

For over 30 years, legendary Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Cole was the driving force behind a major charity tournament in St. John's. When Mr. Cole hosted his final event, Alex Newhook felt a calling to ensure that this mission of community support did not fade away. Today, Alex carries that torch forward with Cole looking down from above, ensuring the tradition evolves to serve a new generation.

Proceeds Supporting THE REAL PROGRAM

The 2024 Classic set a new standard for local giving. These funds provide children from low-income households in St. John’s access to high-cost sports programs, including hockey, ensuring financial barriers never stop an island athlete from reaching their goal.

Royal LePage Fan Fest

The Alex Newhook & Friends Golf Classic is more than just a tournament on the links at the Bally Haly Golf Course. It serves as an epicenter for sports fans in Newfoundland. The accompanying Royal LePage Fan Fest allows thousands of people to engage directly with current NHL stars and Montreal Canadiens alumni.

The 2024 Fan Fest featured a high-intensity Hot Stove session hosted by CBC and Sportsnet broadcaster David Amber. Fans participated in a live Q&A, scored autographs from their favorite players, and competed in a silent auction that featured game-worn jerseys and championship memorabilia, all to benefit local Newfoundland charities.

Beyond the Fairway

While the tournament is the highlight of the summer, Alex’s work with the charity extends year-round. A core focus is supporting the Iris Kirby House and the Cancer Care Patient & Family Support Fund. By leveraging the network of 'Friends' including NHL teammates and coaching staff, Alex ensures that the visibility of these crucial services remains high.

Core Provincial Impacts

While youth recreation is a primary pillar, Alex’s work with the classic serves the most vulnerable in Newfoundland and Labrador. A significant portion of fundraising efforts is dedicated to protecting and supporting our local community through year-round partnerships.
